So, I am the original owner of a 24 year old Toyota Land Cruiser with a mere 101,473 miles on the odometer — and yes, that is low mileage for a pampered, weekend surf truck that had regular, routine mileage. This truck boasts a V8, 4.8 liter engine with an 8 speed auto transmission — one of the greatest engines and transmissions ever made; it should hit 250K, “no problemo.”

But I have been looking at the new Land Cruiser, with a 4 cylinder, twin-turbo hybrid engine. Much better mileage, and sure looks better than my old beast.

So, I have been following Carmax ratings of the price of my old truck, and for two years it has hovered at $10,000. Two years, fluctuating no more than a few hundred bucks up or down from that $10K mark, ok?

This morning, down at the local surf spot here in SoCal, I see my buddy Roger, who is also looking for a new or new/used car. He tells me that ACROSS THE BOARD used car prices are up $2000.00. On every vehicle he has been following for about 6 months. Every. Single. One.

Why?

Trump’s tariffs. Billionaire Trump’s tariffs. Traitor Trump’s tariffs. Thief, liar, rapist, insurrectionist Trump’s tariffs. A man who’s understanding of economics comes down to: “stiff the vendor and let him sue and get 15 cents on the dollar when I settle.”

So I log on to Carmax. My Land Cruiser comes up: $12,400.00.

Two Thousand Bucks higher. Overnight.

This is only the beginning. I will check out new car prices, for some solid numbers, but I suspect the new cars will rise in price, and that other Trump Tariffs will do the same to steel and computers and chotkes from China…..
