Uncivil Disservice
The Laws for the Restoration of the Professional Civil Service — mark my words, the courts are next….
In April of 1933, shortly after coming to power, Adolph Hitler purged the professional classes of “politically unreliable people,” principally Jews who served as lawyers and doctors and ministers of law, or in other capacities in the German government that der Fuhrer controlled entirely at that moment. As Peter Fritzsche writes in HITLER’S FIRST HUNDRED DAYS, the dictator with a stroke of the pen, removed the civil rights of tens of thousands of Germans; as Fritzsche put it, “over a few weeks, German Jews became one thing only: Jews.”
This week, Herr Trump, our own tin-pot dictator (and like Hitler, a teetotaler — never trust a man who will not take a drink), suggested that the the civil rights of children who may yet be born in the country be abrogated because he, the sociopath/POTUS doesn’t like it, this despite the fact that the US Constitution in no uncertain terms provides citizenship for any person born on US soil. But tubby, Queens-born, Orange Adolph doesn’t give a hoot. Like the German leader/dictator, it is all about power.
In lesser but similarly vile moves, Trump fired dozens of Department of Justice prosecutors because they served under Bob Mueller or Jack Smith, the two Special Counsel who investigated Trump. In effect, the sac of excrement disguised as a human being simply denied these civil servants — many with decades of service — their civil rights. He also fired a baker’s dozen of United States Inspectors General, a civil service position established in the Post-Watergate era to protect those tasked with unearthing and eradicating corruption, a move even the spineless jelly fish known as Lindsay Graham called “technically illegal” (side note: Q: what do you call a ‘technicality’ in law? A: your adversary’s winning argument).
These moves are an attempt, like Hitler’s, to absorb unto himself more power.
It worked well for Hitler.
And it was followed by a complete takeover of the judicial system, a move that was been envisioned decades ago by the Federalist Society, and achieved slowly, brilliantly, aided and abetted at the end by Mitch McConnell, culminating in a SCOTUS ruling anointing Homo Floridius Orangerous an erstwhile king. But the disemboweling of the courts has only begun: one can only achieve so much by securing the Supreme Court — after all, they are very busy flying on private jets and enjoying luxury beyond their own means, and can hardly be expected to hear more than 60-70 cases a year. The real next step will be the takeover or subjugation of the Circuit and District courts, probably by our own equivalent of a Fuhrer Order, the so-called Executive Order, as the other violations of civil rights were obtained.
Mark my words, the courts are next. And if you want to see a splendid depiction of the effects of the Fuhrer Order on the courts, sit back and enjoy JUDGMENT AT NUREMBERG, one of the great courtroom dramas/love stories/historical recapitulations of all time. It is an accurate film and a horrifying one.
Mark my words, the courts are next….
Many federal judges, repub and dem appointed, are putting their own plans for going senior (which is a benefit federal judges enjoy when their age and time on the bench equals 80 and they want to still work but fewer hours,. But they keep their full salary for life per the Constitution.) or retiring fully on hold so first felon doesn’t get the opportunity to appoint another judge in their place. I congratulate these public servants for their selflessness in the face of immense pressure to leave. On the other hand, Thomas and Alito…
